CASA had a successful gathering in San Francisco
Chinese American Society of Anesthesiology (CASA) had
successfully sponsored a special Chinese descendant
anesthesiologists' and related scientists gathering in San
Francisco during the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA)
annual meeting on October 11, 2003.
The gathering lasted from 4:30 PM to 9 PM. First, CASA
president Dr. Haiming Wang and Dr. Qing Wang, the
coordinator of this special gathering and CASA Southwestern
delegate gave a welcome speech in both Chinese and English.
They welcome all the colleagues from mainland China, Hong
Kong, Taiwan, Japan,
Canada, and the United States.
Dr. James Cottrell , president of American Society of
Anesthesiologists (ASA),made a encouraging remark .
Consul Mianshuo Wang, accompanied with Consul Jun Wen, of
General Consulate of the People's Republic of China in San
Francisco, highly commented on such a special gathering.
Dr. Yun Yue, secretary of Chinese Society of Anesthesiology
(CSA) briefly introduced CSA's history and some key
officers. He also introduced quite a few outstanding
anesthesiologists from mainland China at the gathering.
Dr. Chan Tai Wai (Matthew) represent Dr. Tony Gin ,
president of Hong Kong college of anesthesiologists , was
pleased to participate in such a special gathering. Dr.
Jhi-Joung Wang, president of Taiwan Society of
Anesthesiologists introduced some remarkable
anesthesiologists from Taiwan. Dr. Davy Cheng, an
outstanding Canadian Chinese Anesthesiologists, showed
strong support .
Dr. Haiming Wang introduced the process of CASA
establishment, its officers and delegates and honorary
members. He also introduced four winners of the Foundation
for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) in the last
three years.
They are Dr. Wei Chao from MGH of Harvard Medical School
(2000), Dr. Chuanyao Tong from Wake Forest University
Medical Center (2002) , Dr. Yunpin Li from Beth Israel
Hospital of Harvard Medical School (2002) , and Dr. Liming
Zhang from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (2003) .
Dr. Philip Liu, Brigham and Women Hospital of Harvard
Medical School and CASA honorary member gave a warm speech.
There were about a hundred attendees enjoyed the delicious
Chinese food and many people felt very fortunate to meet new
friends. This was the first time such a special gathering
ever held in the United States. Some attendees wish to see
some kind of international alliances formed in the future.

from Los Angeles, Dr. Liming Zhang from University of
Pittsburgh, Dr.Hamilton Shay from New York, and Dr. Philip
Liu from Boston.
Many thanks to the cooperation from the Chinese Society of
Anesthesiology, HongKong College of Anesthesiologists,
Taiwan Society of Anesthesiologists,Singapore Society of
Anesthesiologists.
CASA wants to thank special guests Dr. James E. Cottrell,
Mr. Mianshuo Wang from the Bureau of Science and Technology
of Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in
San Francisco.
