At the
end of the year, as the president, I would like to present a
report of activities of Chinese American Society of
Anesthesiology (CASA) in 2003.
Between
December 7, 2002 and February 8, 2003, CASA was organized by
a group of leaders, who played a vital role. They're Drs.
Guogang Chen, Xisong Huang, Naixi Li, David Tang, Changzheng
Wang, Haiming Wang, Vincent Xie, and Henry Zhou.
CASA was
registered in New York City (NYC). The first meeting of CASA
was held on Feburary 9,2003, in Sheraton LaGuardia Hotel at
Flushing, NYC. Many members were very enthusiastic.
Professor Fun-Sun Yao attended the meeting and showed very
strong encouragement. With the headquarter in NYC, CASA
divided the national members into six chapters. Web site (www.chineseASA.org)
was created and maintained by a professional group.
In
March, I went to New Orleans for IARS meeting. I was
fortunate to meet Drs. Henry Liu, Brian Tsang, and Prof. KC
Wong. I received many invaluable advice from them.
In
April, CASA held its first mock oral (free to its members)
in Albert Einstein Medical School, NYC with a good response.
From May
to August, CASA has participated alliance with nine other
Chinese American profesional organizations (Western and
traditional Chinese Medical Physicians, Pharmaceuticals,
lawyers, bankers, finance, investors, and scientists) to
create an anti-SARS fund. Many CASA members participated
donations and conferences.
In July,
I went to Boston and met Drs. Wei Chao and Zhongcong Xie. At
Harvard Medical School, there is a group of young and
energetic Chinese American Anesthesiologists. They are very
active in resarch and enthusiastic in promoting
Sino-American exchange.
In
August, I went to Beijing for two weeks. I visited PUMC (Xie
He Hospital) and interacted with a group of
anesthesiologists in Beijing. We had a sincere discussion
about the cooperation.
In
September, CASA held its second mock oral at Albert Einstein
Medical School.
On
October 11, during the American Society Of Anesthesiologists
(ASA) annual meeting in San Francisco, CASA successfully
organized a special gathering for anesthesiologists of
Chinese descent and research scientists from mainland China,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. Delegates of
Southwestern Chapters, including Drs. Qing Wang, Ou Li, and
Yanqing Lo played key roles at this event. ASA president,
Dr., James Cottrell and Professor Philip Liu made support
remarks. There are four CASA members who have won the
Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) in
the last
three years.
On
November 1, CASA held its second semi-annual meeting in
Sheraton, Flushing, NYC. The agenda including afternoon
lectures and evening entertainment. Dr. Yunping Li (Winner
of FAER) traveled from Boston to NYC and gave a
presentation: "My Research Journey from China to America." A
few other distinguished speakers presented topics from
practice risk management to investment planning.
During
the Postgraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA57 NYC),
CASA set up a booth . It was designed by Dr. Naixi Li . Drs.
Guogang Chen, Naixi Li, Vincent Xie, Changzheng Wang, David
Tang, and Haiming Wang spent time at the booth explaining
CASA.
CASA's
mission is to promote the exchange of anesthesiology
internationally and to improve our patient care. CASA's
vision is to rise to challenges while the world is changing.
We value the contributions of our members and friends. With
all their talent
and effort, CASA will have a bright future.
Here, I
would like to express my appreciation to the devotion of
many CASA officers, delegates, and members. CASA is for all
the members.
In the
future, if any member needs help, or would like to make a
contribution, please contact us through the email (chineseASA@yahoo.com).
Christmas, New Year, and Spring Festival are coming...Happy
Holidays!
Sincerely,
Haiming Wang
